Ellie Bath
Principal Investigator

Ellie is a Stipendiary Lecturer in Biology at Brasenose, Somerville, and Lady Margaret Hall. She researches sexual selection, with a particular focus on female aggression.

Andrew Spires
Oxford Interdisciplinary DTP DPhil Student

Andrew is doing his DPhil with Prof Ashleigh Griffin, Dr Beth Mortimer, and Dr Ellie Bath. Andrew is investigating the relationship between social and sexual selection, as well as how animals use vibratory signalling in a number of contexts.

Hannah Ogden
Oxford Interdisciplinary DTP DPhil Student

Hi! My name's Hannah and I'm a BBSRC DTP student. For my PhD I want to ask how males make the most out of their mating encounters. For example, should 'poor quality' males team up to better even the playing field? And should fighting opponents be chosen with greater care when more is at stake? To investigate these ideas and more I will use a combination of computational and empirical approaches, utilising species such as Drosophila and the Red Junglefowl.
Ellen Pasternack
iCase DPhil student

Ellen finished her DPhil in 2022, in which she studied sexual selection, the effects of recognition on mating success, and their applications in commercial chicken breeding.

Ayla Webb
Masters' of Biology student

Ayla did her MBiol project investigating the effects of age and condition on survival and reproduction in the short-lived vapourer moth.
Alice Mosey
Masters' of Biology student

Alice did her MBiol project investigating the fitness effects of female-female aggression in fruit flies, as well as the effects of mating on the neurobiology of aggression.

Eloise did her MBiol project on the aggressive interactions between two sympatric species of Australian fruit fly.
Ben Ibbott
UNIQ+ Intern

Ben did his UNIQ+ project on whether fruit flies use sight to fight.

Barbara Francik
Summer research student

Barbara did her summer research project investigating how resource value influences aggression in fruit flies.

Ellie Smith
ASAB Research Project student

Ellie received an Undergraduate Research Grant from the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour to investigate whether there is a genetic correlation in aggression between male and female fruit flies.

Lottie McKenna
UNIQ+ Intern

Lottie did her UNIQ+ project investigating whether fruit flies need smell or sound cues to fight.
